In this workshop we invite Eleanor Finley to discuss with us Social Ecology’s approach to radical democracy and organizing. Being a lifelong organiser and intellectual in different movements, Murray Bookchin (1921-2006) developed Communalism or Municipalism as a new framework to build councils and cooperatives by radical citizens.

As a prominent student of Bookchin’s work and author of the recent book Practicing Social Ecology: From Bookchin to Rojava and Beyond, Finley will facilitate a discussion about the practical opportunities and challenges about this model of city-based organizing. Together, we will explore questions like: How can we go about building organized neighborhoods within a city like Vienna? How do we re-imagine cities and relationships? What is required to make that imagination a reality?
