It has now been 25 years since Genoa witnessed not only the largest protests against a summit of world leaders, but also the state’s violent and even deadly response to the masses and their hope for a different world. The murder of Carlo Giuliani was the tragic culmination of state repression.

And yet, the summer of 2001 in Genoa was also an expression of a diverse movement of the multitude, a seed of hope for a world to come. This included the political and artistic project „No Border, No Nation Volxtheaterkarawane/Publixtheatre Caravan,“ which faced severe state repression following the protests.

Introduction: Axel Schacht (a member of the Publixtheatre Caravan in 2001) will provide a concise overview of the historical and political context of the protests in Genoa.

Film Screening: publiXtheatrecaravan.mov (35 minutes, German with English subtitles). This documentary highlights the artistic-activist contribution to the anti-G8 protests.

Reading Corner: A selection of books on the topic will be available to browse, courtesy of the Bibliothek von unten (Library from Below).

After the event, there will be a discussion/ small panel and food will be available.
